Dangerous Sports Should Be Banned
When we speak of the ancient Romans, we can't helpthrilling at the slaughter in their arenas which theytook as entertainment. Well, any way, thishappened 2, 000 years ago. But are modern peopleless blood-thirsty? Why do boxing matches attractsuch universal interest? Don't the spectators hopeto see some violence?
It is really incredible that in this age we should stillallow hunting and bull-fighting, that we should be prepared to sit back and watch two men fighteach other in a boxing ring, that we should be relatively unmoved by the sight of one or anumber of racing cars crashing and bursting into flames. People take part in violent sportsbecause of the high rewards they bring. Spectators are willing to pay vast sums of money tosee violence. A lot of people are disappointed if a fight is over in two rounds instead offifteen just because they have been deprived of the exquisite pleasure of witnessing prolongedtor ture and violence .
Why should we ban violent sports since people enjoy them so much? The answer is simple: they are uncivilized. For centuries man has been trying to improve himself spiritually andemotionally and this is the 21st century. Tremendous progress has been made in science andtechnology, social welfare systems are in operation in many parts of the world, and big effortshave been made to increase public wealth. These changes have come about because humanbeings have taken positive steps to change and improve human civilization. If we banneddangerous and violent sports, we would be moving one step further to improving mankind.
