　　Direction: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to translate a passage from Chinese into English. You should write your answer on Answer Sheet 2.

　　中国汉族人的全名由姓和名组成。中文姓名的特点是，姓总是在前，名跟在其后，千百年来，父姓一直世代相传。然而，如今，孩子跟母亲姓并不罕见。一般来说，名有一个或两个汉字，通常承载父母对孩子的愿望。从孩子的名字可以推断出父母希望孩子成为什么样的人，或者预期他们过什么样的生活。父母非常重视给孩子取名，因为名字往往会伴随孩子一生。

　　The full name of the Han people in China consists of their surname and first name. The characteristic of Chinese names is that the surname always comes first, followed by the first name. For thousands of years, the father’s surname has been passed down from generation to generation. Nowadays, however, it is not rare for children who have the same surname as their mothers. Generally speaking, the first name consists of one or two Chinese characters, usually carrying parents’ wishes for their children. From the children’s names, we can infer what kind of person the parents want their children to be, or what kind of life they expect them to live. Parents attach great importance to naming their children, because names often accompany their children’s whole life.

　　1. 中国汉族人的全名由姓和名组成：“全名”翻译为full name;“汉族”翻译为Han people/Han ethic group;“组成”用consists of。“姓”翻译为surname/family name;“名”翻译为first/given name。

　　2. 中文姓名的特点是，姓总是在前，名跟在其后：“中文姓名的特点”用of结构，注意用复数：The characteristic of Chinese names;“总是在前”翻译为always comes first;“紧随”用followed by;

　　3. 千百年来，父姓一直世代相传：这里需要与前一句断句。“千百年来”翻译为For thousands of years;“一直”应该用现在完成时，表示从过去持续到现在,用被动表示被人们相传has been passed;“世代相传”翻译为passed down from generation to generation/passed down through generations。

　　4. 然而，如今，孩子跟母亲姓并不罕见：“然而，如今”翻译为Nowadays, however;“并不罕见”可以翻译为it is not rare…结构;“孩子跟母亲姓”翻译为children who have same surnames as their mothers/have their mothers’ family name;

　　5. 一般来说，名有一个或两个汉字，通常承载父母对孩子的愿望：“一般来说”翻译为短语Generally speaking;“汉字”翻译为character;后半句可以用非谓语结构，“承载父母的愿望”翻译为carrying the parents’ wishes。

　　6. 从孩子的名字可以推断出父母希望孩子成为什么样的人，或者预期他们过什么样的生活：这一句需要断句，“推断”翻译为infer;“孩子成为什么样的人”翻译为what kind of person their children to be;“预期他们过什么样的生活”翻译为what kind of life they expect them to live。

　　7. 父母非常重视给孩子取名，因为名字往往会伴随孩子一生：“非常重视”翻译为attach great importance to doing;“伴随”翻译为accompany;“一生”翻译为whole life。
